Interior Design Process
If you’ve not experienced an interior design project before, you might be wondering about the process and what it involves. Here we have provided a brief summary of the stages typically involved at KTM Design (these stages are designed around RIBA’s Plan of Work, the UK model for building and construction processes), so you know what to expect. Please note that depending on the scale of your project, this process could look different.
Step 1:
Design brief
Firstly, we’ll conduct a site visit to understand how the building comes together and what you’d like to achieve from your new space so we can work towards achieving these goals.
Step 2:
Concept design
We’ll create an initial design plan, including 3D models, floorplans, fabrics and furnishings.
Step 3:
Design development
We’ll explore finishes and design styles in further detail, specifying the materials to be used and refining the interior layouts. We will also consider any economic, environmental and construction needs and requirements.
Step 4:
Technical design
We’ll then put together a fully detailed technical construction pack along with finishing schedules and FF&E specifications.
Step 5:
Construction
We’ll work closely with contractors as they carry out the construction work, ensuring that it is consistent with the concept design. We’ll also advise on any specialist subcontractors should we feel it’s required.
Step 6:
Handover and closeout
Finally, we’ll visit the site to determine whether any further work is necessary to ensure the space fulfills the brief. The project will only come to a close when ourselves and the client are happy with the final result.
